When the world’s foremost maker of crystal glassware needed architectural glass for its very first hotel and luxury residences, it came to CARVART.  Baccarat Hotel & Residences New York is the global hotel flagship for the 250-year-old crystal icon.  Paris design firm Gilles & Boissier spent three years on the design that blends classic Parisian elegance with contemporary midtown New York.  SOM served as architects for the 50-story tower that includes 114 guest rooms or suites and 60 residences.  The international team, which also included Woods Bagot and Ingrao Inc., looked to CARVART to create false glass ceilings to shield 17 magnificent, custom-produced chandeliers in the lobby and public areas.

Laminated cool reflective and cool transparent reflective glass are installed under and around the chandeliers, amplifying the light and creating a dazzling sensory experience. The result is the illusion of visual infinity in the relatively small lobby.  The CARVART Ceiling also brightens the elevator lobby’s dark paneled walls and black stone floors.  In Baccarat’s distinctive barrel-vaulted bar, CARVART’s laminated Mirage from the Pattern Line creates a shimmering 20-foot wall in a custom champagne color that mimics baccarat champagne flutes.

The elevator lobby features a customized metal framework with Pure glass that is filled with Baccarat crystal glasses.  Each frame opens and closes to access the glassware, and is illuminated by colored lights that pulse to the music. Another extraordinary effect is a portal made of CARVART framed glass panels that lead from the main lobby to the elevator lobby. This luminescent glass gridwork illuminates the corridor while maintaining an element of mystery and portending the spectacle to come in the well-appointed guest rooms and luxury residences.

In the residence bathrooms, CARVART’s Shimmer 3 from Core creates an elegant wall cladding and Optical White from the Textile collection was employed to craft custom laminated mirrors with a lighted textile effect.  CARVART also designed glass railings in the residences and a reflective ceiling in the hotel penthouse.  CARVART’s swing and sliding doors, mirrors and partitions brighten the world-class spa.  CARVART is proud to have been part of a team that celebrates light and understands the power of glass to innovate and create glowing, shimmering and sensual interiors.

Heritage and tradition blended with creativity and innovation. Old world craftsmanship combined with new world cutting-edge execution. This is CARVART.

Led by Edward Geyman, CARVART has progressed from a mom-and-pop operation started over 20 years ago by father Anatoly Geyman out of a Brooklyn factory, into a thriving architectural glass business with clients from across the country and Europe. One thing remains unchanged from its small-company days – the Geyman touch – an unwavering commitment to providing expertise and personal enthusiasm for creative expression on every project.
