The Greenwich by Rafael Viñoly, a landmark residential tower in Lower Manhattan, came back to life after years of construction pause with a new sense of purpose. CARVART was brought in not just as a fabricator, but as a strategic partner—tasked with rethinking outdated specs, rebuilding material packages, and collaborating with new teams under accelerated timelines. The scope included over 400 frameless shower enclosures, custom underlit walkable glass, black acrylic-wrapped pool columns, steam and sauna doors, and office partitions clad in fluted backpainted glass and bronze-look framing. Through close coordination with ownership, GC, and design teams, CARVART developed new engineered systems and custom finishes that captured the original vision while meeting the realities of a full-scale restart.
CLIENT: Bizzi & Partners, Omnibuild
SCOPE: Comprehensive architectural glass and metal solutions across residential, wellness, and amenity spaces including engineering, prefabrication, and custom material development.
After a multi-year construction pause, The Greenwich reemerged with a new team, new constraints, and a fresh need for cohesive execution. CARVART was brought in to help reestablish design continuity, navigate outdated specs, and deliver updated material solutions that matched the original intent without compromise.
Project Restart: Building had been paused for over three years, requiring a full design and coordination reset.
Outdated Specs: Original material specifications were no longer viable or available.
Trade Turnover: Personnel changes across GC and design teams disrupted continuity and approvals.
Material Coordination: Multiple adjacent bronze finishes needed precise alignment across trades.
To move forward, CARVART reimagined the scope in partnership with the design and ownership teams, introducing new materials, creating custom finishes, and leveraging in-house engineering to meet both design goals and tight timelines.
Custom Finish Creation: Developed a bespoke bronze-look anodized finish to match surrounding materials.
Material Reassessment: Selected updated glass types and finishes from CARVART’s expanded offerings.
Engineering Collaboration: Worked directly with architects and owners to redesign scope elements.
Accelerated Approvals: Hosted roundtable reviews to fast-track decisions and streamline execution.
Comprehensive Resurveying: Re-templated site conditions to account for structural variation and layout shifts.
Column Cladding Innovation: Engineered unitized acrylic column panels for faster, more precise installation.
Scope Integration: Delivered over 400 frameless showers, underlit walkable glass, and fluted partitions.
Ahead of Schedule: Met or exceeded project milestones, often advancing work ahead of other trades.
